Job Summary
The Junior Counsel will provide legal and compliance support to the business, with a primary focus on labor and employment law, corporate legal matters, litigation management, and regulatory compliance. The role requires close coordination with internal departments, government authorities, external lawyers, and law enforcement agencies to ensure the Company’s legal interests are protected while supporting business operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice on the Bangladesh Labor Act, 2006, Bangladesh Labor Rules, 2015, EPZ Labor Act (where applicable), and other relevant employment laws.
- Advise management on disciplinary matters, including misconduct investigations, domestic inquiries, show cause notices, suspension, dismissal, termination, retrenchment, and settlement procedures.
- Draft, review, and vet employment contracts, agreements, policies, SOPs, commercial agreements, service contracts, NDAs and other legal documents.
- Support litigation management by coordinating with external legal counsel and maintaining records of court cases.
- Liaise with government authorities including the Department of Labor, Labor Courts, Police, Industrial Police, BKMEA/BGMEA, BEPZA and other regulatory agencies.
- Represent the Company during meetings with government authorities and assist in inspections, investigations, and dispute resolution processes.
- Assist in handling labor disputes, worker grievances, industrial relations matters, and trade union-related issues.
- Conduct legal research and prepare legal opinions on employment, corporate, and commercial matters.
- Support corporate governance and company secretarial activities as required.
- Monitor legal developments and advise management on legislative and regulatory changes.
- Conduct legal and compliance awareness sessions for management and employees when required.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure legal compliance across business operations.
- Perform any other legal and compliance duties assigned by management.
Qualifications
- LL.B. from a recognized university. LL.M. will be an advantage.
- Enrolment as an Advocate (preferred but not required).
Experience
- 2–4 years of relevant post-qualification experience.
- Experience in a multinational company, large corporate organization, or reputable law firm.
- Practical experience in labor and employment law is mandatory.
- Experience in corporate legal matters and commercial contract review is preferred.
- Experience in litigation management and dealing with government authorities will be an advantage.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of the Bangladesh Labor Act, 2006 and Bangladesh Labor Rules, 2015, Bangladesh EPZ Labor Act, 2019 and Bangladesh EPZ Labor Rules 2022.
- Sound understanding of disciplinary procedures, domestic inquiries, misconduct investigations, and termination processes.
- Good understanding of company law, corporate governance, and commercial legal matters.
- Ability to interact professionally with Police, Industrial Police, Department of Labor, Labor Courts, and other government agencies.
- Strong drafting, negotiation, and legal research skills.
- Ability to analyze legal risks and provide practical business-oriented solutions.
